Howard Clum

Howard “Howdy” Eugene Clum, 95, of New Philadelphia died Saturday, March 17, 2018 while in the care of Community Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia.

Born in Fry’s Valley, on December 15, 1922, Howard was a son of the late William E. and Edna (Miller) Clum.

He was a graduate of the former Gnadenhutten High School and entered the United States Navy at the end of World War, II. During his enlistment, Howard was stationed in California where he was assigned to the Transportation Unit. Upon his return from the service, Howard became an entrepreneur and throughout the 1950’s owned three gas stations. He later went to work for Warner & Swasey, later Gradall, and retired in 1995 following more than 20 years of service with the company.

Howard was a devoted and long-time member of LifeWay Church at New Philadelphia. He enjoyed repairing and working on cars and helping family and friends alike on their own vehicles.

He is survived by a daughter, Janet (Troy) Brady; his grandchildren, Evan (Laura) Davies, Shane Brady all of Las Vegas, Nevada, John (Lori) Bantum of New Philadelphia, Elizabeth (Marvin) Eikleberry of Killbuck and Paul (Jenny) Bantum of Dover; as well as numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Elizabeth Clum; his daughter, Helen Clark; a granddaughter, Debbie Dexter; and three brothers, Chester, Arthur, and Clarence Clum.

The family will greet guests on Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 5-8 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where a service celebrating Howard’s life will be led by Pastor Larry Fletcher, on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 10:30 AM. Burial with military honors will follow in the Dover Burial Park. A meal and fellowship will take place in LifeWay Church at New Philadelphia following services.
