Hazel Mary Maurer

Hazel Mary Maurer, 82, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in Park Village Health Care Center at Dover following a period of declining health.

A daughter of the late Leaman James “L.J.” and Winifred (Horsfal) Shroyer, Hazel was born October 31, 1933 at Massillon, Ohio.

Hazel was a lifelong resident of the area and retired from Union Hospital as a Dietary Supervisor after 47 years of service. She enjoyed cross stitching and babysitting.

She is survived by her son, James (fiancée, Ella Murphy) Maurer of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Brandon (Katie), Dylan (girlfriend, Tristan) and Morgan Maurer; a brother, Lewis (Helen) Shroyer of Dover and many nieces and nephews.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Russell Edward Maurer and two brothers, Kenneth and Ronald Shroyer.

In keeping with Hazel’s wishes cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Inurnment will take place on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. in Dover Burial Park.
