Gopal Prasad Agarwal, 89 of New Philadelphia lived a full and healthy life. He died peacefully, Tuesday, July 31, 2018.

Born on September 25, 1928, in Agra, India, Gopal was one of seven children born to the late Mathura Prasad and Shanti Devi Poddar Agarwal.

Gopal came to the United States on June 8, 1949 and began his undergraduate work at Tri State College in Indiana. He earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan and earned his second Master’s Degree from Northwestern where his chosen fields of study were Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering. After working in Pennsylvania for a number of years, Gopal relocated to the Tuscarawas Valley and began working for GE at Dover where he expanded and honed his expertise, becoming the company expert in the metals tungsten and molybdenum.

Gopal enjoyed walking on the treadmill, exercising with friends at the Tuscarawas County YMCA, cooking and following the latest nutrition trends, but above all being with his family and sharing in activities and adventures with them.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 59 years, Sally Winter Agarwal, their four children, Kamla (husband, Joy) Mukherjee of Wisconsin, Brij Agarwal of Pennsylvania, Dr. Indu (husband, David Patton) Agarwal of Solon, and Maya Agarwal of Oregon; seven grandchildren, Rohin, Neel, May, Bridget, Patrick, Fred, and India.

Completing the family are his siblings, Kusum, Nayantara, Hari Mohan, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gopal was preceded in death by siblings, Saroj, Rani, and Prahlad.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, August 4, 2018 in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where a light reception will immediately follow.

Sally & family, We just returned from vacation and I read of Gopal’s passing. I have many wonderful memories of talking with Gopal at the YMCA. He loved to talk about working with my father, Thomas Ayers at GE and was always interested in my children. He was such a positive man and I will miss him. My condolences to all of you.

We were deeply saddened to hear that Gopal has passed away. We became acquainted with Sally and Gopal at Hennis Care Center in Bolivar, while sharing a room with Gopal. They were such kind and caring people, even while dealing with Gopal's health issues. Sally shared her flower seeds which are beginning to bloom in the flower garden. How proud they are of their family. Our prayers for Sally and the family that peace will be theirs and memories will make them smile. Our deepest sympathy Chris and Clare.
