Frederick Warfield

May 10, 1950 — January 25, 2018

Frederick C. Warfield, Jr. age 67, of New Philadelphia died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 25, 2018 in Union Hospital at Dover.

Born on May 10, 1950 in Union Hospital, Fred was a son of the late Frederick Charles and Norma Marie (Newton) Warfield.

Fred was a 1968 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and was drafted into the United States Army and served his country during Vietnam. It was during this time that Fred was awarded a Purple Heart. Fred was an extremely proud veteran who held a life membership with the Carl C. Stoller Post 1445 of the New Philadelphia VFW and served on the parade color guard team for many years. In 1985, Fred was a driving force on the development and placement of the Vietnam War Veteran’s Memorial, which is placed in the courtyard of the Tuscarawas County Courthouse.

Fred retired from Arizona Chemical in 2003 where he worked as a chemical supervisor. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and an even bigger fan of the Cleveland Indians, and enjoyed attending games. His prized possession was his black, 1980 280z Datsun. He also loved spending his summer months maintaining his swimming pool and keeping it at optimal temperatures.

He is survived by his wife, the former, Pamela Erwin, whom he married on September 7, 1991; his children, Frederick C. (Amanda) Warfield, III of Uhrichsville, Sean Warfield of Barnhill, Brian (Jessica) Warfield of Dennison, Erik (Tricia) Gauvey and Rachel (Matthew) Kuhn all of New Philadelphia; eight granddaughters, Ashley, Emily, Aaliyah, Brianna, Zoe, Sienna, Hannah, and Alexus; a sister, Jackie Mathews of New Philadelphia; a brother, Mark (Cathy) Warfield of Florida; a half-brother, Robin Warfield of Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by a sister, Jo Ann Mosberger and a brother-in-law, Mike Mathews.

The family will greet guests on Monday, January 29, 2018 from 4-7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Brian Flood will lead a service celebrating Fred’s life in the funeral home’s chapel on Tuesday at 10:30 AM. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
