Flora “Babe” Penrod, age 98 of Country Club Retirement Center at Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia died Tuesday evening, June 5, 2018.

Born in Fairfield Township, on March 2, 1920, Flora was a daughter of the late John and Maria Silvestro Ferchill.

Flora was a 1938 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and on November 25, 1942, married Walter Richard Penrod. Together the couple reared four children and shared in 60 years of marriage prior to his passing on February 13, 2003.

A longtime member of Sacred Heart Church, Flora was a former member of the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum and most recently held memberships with the Tuscarawas County Genealogical Society and the Tuscarawas County Senior Center. After raising her family, Flora spent 17 years with the New Philadelphia City Schools as a custodian.

All who visited with Flora knew that leaving her house hungry was not an option. She loved hosting company in her home and made sure everyone was always well fed. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and making them all feel special.

She leaves behind two sons, Richard (Judy) Penrod of New Philadelphia and Dale (Emily) Penrod of New Mexico; a daughter, Joan (Harry) Wilson of New Philadelphia; four granddaughters, Nicole Incarnato of Dover, Renee (Troy) West of Dover, Alicia (Matt) Stockler of New Lexington, and Janice Wilson of Bolivar; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Brock West, and Alyssa and Kaley Incarnato; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Flora was preceded in death by a son, James Edward Penrod; two sisters, Anna Finnicum and Rose Benjamin and four brothers, Pat Ferchill, Dom Ferchill, Joe Ferchill, and Vic Ferchill.

In keeping with Flora’s wishes, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be led by Father Jeff Coning with burial to take place in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.

Memorial contributions in Flora’s name may be directed to Tuscarawas County Dog Pound, 1751 Tech Park Drive NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.

To Rich,Judy, and all the Penrod family, Please accept our sincere sympathy for the loss of your sweet, loving mother and grandmother. I first met Flora at Designs by DeMonte ,where I worked, and fell in love with her immediately! She was undoudtedly one of dearest fun-loving ladies I'd ever met and she was always so kind and always the same---made you feel good to talk to her each week! Then, by choice, Martha and I had the pleasure of visiting her at the nursing home and she was a joy! That's where we found out she had the nikname of BABE! So, she was BABE to us from then on!I loved her! I will never forget her!!! Cheryl

To Rich and the Penrod family: I was so sorry to read about the passing of your mother. I remember your family from the neighborhood, as your uncle, Dom Ferchill, lived next door to my family - the Farbizos. May your mom rest in peace. God bless, Marta Farbizo Vassiles

Visited with Babe these last 3years and really enjoyed her company and wit. Having known Rich and Joan from Sacred heart days, it was very special having a friendship with your mom. Just 3 weeks ago we took her outside in the sunshine and she really enjoyed it. Now she is in paradise where she can dance and sing with her husband and family. Loved you like a "mom"! I extend my deepest sympathy and thank you for sharing her with me. Martha Massarelli Fankhauser
