Doyle Ray Chumney

Doyle Ray and Lillian Mae (Hodges) Chumney, loving parents, grandparents and friends, passed away in Coshocton County on Thursday, January 22, 2015.

On August 11, 1926, Doyle was born in Dover to the late Reader Ray and Lena Olga (Opplinger) Chumney. After graduation, he joined the United States Army where he honorably served his country. Doyle was employed by the former Goshen Dairy for 33 years as a milkman.

Lillian was born in Wadsworth, Ohio on March 12, 1935 to the late William Thomas and Florence Hodges. Her adoptive parents, the late Harry and Minnie Goodman of Trail, Ohio, were incredibly significant to her throughout their lifetime. Lillian was educated at Winesburg and dedicated the remainder of her life caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren.

On June 16, 1956, Doyle and Lillian were joined in holy marriage in Trail, Ohio. Together, they enjoyed a lifetime of love and laughter. They were blessed with the birth of their four children and six grandchildren, whom they spent much time with and adored.

Doyle and Lillian were active members at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center, where they could be found most any day of the week. They also loved to dance, especially polka. Their faith was nurtured at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover.

Independently, Lillian enjoyed cheering on the Cleveland Cavaliers and mowing the grass. Doyle took daily walks and always enjoyed laughing with others.

They will be deeply missed by their children including Ronald (Carin) Chumney of Broadview Heights, Ohio, Diane Enama of New Philadelphia, Edward Chumney of Navarre, and Wesley (Diana) Chumney of Mars, PA; their grandchildren, Jessica and Jaimie Chumney, Taylor and Hunter Enama, and Austin and Beau Heakins; Doyle’s brothers, Eugene (Shirley) Chumney of Mineral City, Ervin (Betty) Chumney of Lore City, Ohio, Walter (Charlene) Chumney of Old Washington, Ohio, and Ray (Barbara) Chumney of New Philadelphia; Lillian’s sister-in-law, Marge Hodges of Bath, Ohio; in addition to numerous other family members and friends.
In addition to their parents, the Chumney’s were preceded in death by Doyle’s sister, Charlene Chumney; and Lillian’s siblings, Robert Hodges, Geraldine Hodges, Ardis Shrock, Arlene Shaw, Harriet Warfield and Garnet Chaplain.

Memorial visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover, 5600 North Wooster Ave., on Friday, January 30, 2015, from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. A service celebrating their lives will be held in the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. Private interment will be held in Dover Burial Park at a later date.
