Dorothy Jane Winters

Dorothy Jane Winters, 92, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, September 29, 2016 in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.

A daughter of the late Dean and Vera (Simmons) Sever, Dorothy was born September 20, 1924 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Dorothy graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1942.  She then continued her education at Mt. Carmel Nursing School in Columbus, graduating in 1946.  During her younger years she worked as a Registered Nurse at Union Hospital, the Tuscarawas County Health Department and various nursing homes throughout the area.

She was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church at New Philadelphia and was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.  Dorothy enjoyed crocheting and painting during her younger years.  She also enjoyed gardening and was an avid shopper.  Most of all, Dorothy had a true passion for her family.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Winters whom she married on August 28, 1948; her children, Tom (Cathy) Winters of Dover, Suzanne (Phillip) Albury, Barb (Dale) Haney, Jane (Brett) Sulzener, Merri Beth (Blaine) Anstine and Julie (Jeff) Erwin all of New Philadelphia; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law and her husband and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, two grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 3, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.  A funeral service celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Jim Borton officiating.  Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.  Following the committal service a luncheon will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.
