Dorothy “Dottie” Maurer

Dorothy Jean “Dottie” Maurer, 86, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at her home following a period of declining health.

A daughter of the late Byron “Doc” Moore and the late Ella (Johnson) Moore, Dottie was born January 31, 1929 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Dottie was a 1947 graduate of New Philadelphia High School.  Then on November 27, 1947, she married the love of her life, Harold Curtis Maurer, and together the couple raised two daughters, Janet and Julie.

She was retired from the Atwood Lodge where she worked as a banquet waitress for more than 20 years.  Dottie lead an active life and enjoyed being on the go with Harold.  She was an avid golfer and bowler and was a member of various golf teams and bowling leagues over the years.  She was a member of the 300 club having bowled a perfect game and also recorded a hole-in-one.  Dottie enjoyed traveling with Harold as well as tending to the plants and flowers around her home.  She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church.  Most of all she cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Harold Maurer; her daughters, Janet Maurer of New Philadelphia and Julie (Robert) Korns of Bowerston; two grandchildren, Heather (Sean) Delsing of Toddville, Iowa and Trevor (Rachael) Korns of Chesterfield, Michigan; three great grandchildren, Kathryn Jean Delsing and Troy and Addison Korns; a sister, Joann Shroyer of Dover and her faithful companion, her dog, Skeeter.

Dottie was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Richard Moore and a brother-in-law, Willis Maurer.

In keeping with Dottie’s wishes, calling hours and services will be private.

Contributions may be made in Dottie’s memory to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
