Donna Jean Green Sours

Donna Jean Dinger Green (Sours), age 87, of Midvale passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, August 3, 2017 surrounded by her loving family at Community Hospice’s Truman Hospice House in New Philadelphia.

A daughter of David Fredrick Dinger and Opal Pearl Kinsey Dinger she was born March 22, 1930 in Midvale.

On June 27, 1951, she married Louis Richard Green at Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison, Ohio. She then joined Louis at Camp Rucker in Dothan, Alabama as he served in the United States Army and returned to this area in 1953. Together they raised two children David (Karen) Green of Midvale and Cindy Gowins of Dennison, Ohio.

Donna loved spending time with her grandchildren Stephanie (Sam) Gordon, Wendi Green, David (Vanessa) Green, Sabrina Gowins and Tabitha Gowins and her five great-grandchildren who complete her family.

A 1948 graduate of Midvale High School Donna began her career at Newberry’s in New Philadelphia. Then as a secretary for the former Midvale School moving on to the Penn Mold Company in Dover, Ohio. In 1965, she started as a clerk at the Midvale Post Office and retired from there as Postmaster in 1995. This was her pride and joy since her father and grandfather had also been Postmasters at Midvale. She traveled extensively to postal conventions in many states throughout her career including California, Texas and Hawaii.

A devoted Cleveland Indians fan Donna first attended an Indians game in 1948 at Municipal Stadium and several times during the 1994-1995 season. A member of Tuscarawas Warwick Seniors she enjoyed attending their monthly meetings including last month’s.

In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen Elizabeth Davis and Harold Wayne Dinger; her husband Louis Green; son-in-law, Keith Gowins, and her second husband, Charles Sours.

The family will receive guests on Monday, August 7, 2017 from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Father Tyron Tomson will lead a funeral liturgy on Monday at 1:30 PM. Committal will follow in the East Avenue Mausoleum in New Philadelphia.
