Daniel Ralph West, 83, of Dover, passed away at home on January 10, 2018, following a lengthy illness, with his devoted wife and caregiver at his side.

Daniel Ralph West, 83, of Dover, passed away at home on January 10, 2018, following a lengthy illness, with his devoted wife and caregiver at his side.

Born to the late Ralph and Helen West, Dan was born July 15, 1934, in Pomeroy, Ohio, and graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1952. Upon graduation, he worked for the New York Central Railroad and then served four years in the U.S. Navy as a radio technician, including serving on the USS Ticonderoga. After discharge, he married the former Jo Snowden on May 22, 1958. Dan then attended Ohio University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce. He worked the rest of his career for several companies in the accounting and insurance fields.

Dan is survived by his wife, Jo (Snowden) West, his sons, Michael (Deb) West of Dover, and Patrick (Grace) West of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, granddaughters, Abbie (Chip) Patterson of Dover and Kelie (Kyle) Ward of Jacksonville, Arkansas, grandson, Kit West of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, great-grandchildren, Max and Annie Patterson and Keegan and Kennedy Ward, sisters-in-law, Barbara West of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Jill (Steve) Valeriote of Lincoln, California, a brother-in-law, Jerry (Linda) Snowden of Gainsville, Georgia, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Helen (Lalance) West, a brother, Jack, an infant son, Daniel Joseph West, and his beloved dog, Pete.

Dan was an avid golfer and reader and devoted follower of the Lord. He faithfully served as an Elder at Faith Christian Church in New Philadelphia and was later honored for his years of service and dedication with the title of Elder Emeritus.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 2 to 4 PM in the Faith Christian Church. Pastor Larry Sims will officiate his service beginning at 4 PM. Following the service, Dan’s church family will host a meal in the atrium at the church.

Memorial contributions in Dan’s memory may be directed to Faith Christian Church Building Fund, 2012 Pleasant Valley Rd. NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.

Dan was a great friend, inspirational Christian and steadfast rock of committeemen that was always ready to lend a hand to do what he could. He will be sorely missed but I know that he is in a far better place. May God bless the ones that are left behind to grieve the loss.
