June Canfield, 90, of Midvale, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Schoenbrunn Health Care at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.

A lifelong resident of Tuscarawas County, June was born on May 3, 1927 at Roswell, Ohio to the late Everen Emmett and Leona Glee (Stacey) Downing.

In her early years, June worked as a nurse at the former Torgler Nursing Home on East High Avenue in New Philadelphia. Most of her life, she served as an organist and pianist for area churches, evangelistic services, revivals, funerals, weddings and vacation bible schools around the community as well as throughout the state of Ohio. She also loved to decorate and make various floral arrangements for churches and family. June also loved to cook and bake for various occasions to bless her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Alvin Conkey of Midvale; two grandsons, Brian (Tanya) Conkey of Rock Hill, South Carolina and Kevin (April) Conkey of Bedford, Ohio; a great grandson, Vincent Conkey of Rock Hill, South Carolina; two nieces, Kathy (Will) Skaer of Dover and Sherry (Greg) Botkin of Midvale and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

June was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Jesse M. Canfield; a brother, Kenneth Downing; a niece, Sharon Downing and a nephew, Kenneth Downing Jr.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating June’s life will be held on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Goshen Community Church of the Nazarene, located off of St Rt. 416 on David Road in Goshen with Rev. Alvin Conkey officiating, assisted by Kevin Conkey. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service, a luncheon will be held in the fellowship hall at the church, with prayer and comments by Pastor Lee Randolph.
