Charles R. Goodie

September 30, 1936 — February 9, 2018

Charles R. Goodie, 81, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018 while in the care of Community Hospice Truman House after a period of declining health.

Born September 30, 1936, Charlie was the son of the late William and Mary (Allton) Goodie. Charlie graduated from Dover High School in 1954 and served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Anchorage, Alaska along with three of his high school friends. After serving three years in the Army, Charlie returned to Dover and started an apprenticeship with a local surveyor. Charlie went on to become a licensed surveyor and worked 15 years for Miskimen Surveying before becoming a co-owner of Bair and Goodie Surveying, Inc. for 20 years.

Charlie married the love of his life, the late Gail (Goss) Goodie on June 27, 1958 and spent the next 41 years as a loving couple. Together they raised three children.

Charlie was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing all the area courses and after the round, spending time with his buddies at the New Philadelphia Elks where he was a life member. He also enjoyed playing poker and spending time visiting with family, friends and neighbors while on his glider located just inside his garage door. Often times he would be listening to the Indians on the radio when someone stopped for a visit. A sports enthusiast, Charlie loved following the Buckeyes, Browns and the Tribe.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Beth (Goodie) Holmes and his son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Susan Goodie along with five granddaughters, Kimber and Hannah Holmes and Peyton, Paige and Preston Goodie; a great granddaughter, Emerson Goodie; his sister, Ruth Miskimen and several special nieces and nephews who were very kind to him.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gail; a daughter, Lori Jo; a sister, Dorothy Hufford and brother, Bill Goodie.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. In keeping with Charlie’s wishes, cremation will follow and a private family graveside service will be held in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover.
