Bonnie Lee Hendershot, 67, of Strasburg, died Monday, August 28, 2017 in her home, surrounded by her family, following a hard-fought battle with cancer.

A daughter of the late Roland “Baldy” and Gladys Workman Baker, Bonnie was born in Union Hospital at Dover on September 20, 1949.

Bonnie graduated from Strasburg Franklin Schools. While attending an event at Columbia Skateland, Bonnie met her future husband, James Hendershot. On July 20, 1968, the couple married and raised three children and recently celebrated 49 years of marriage.

Bonnie attended Faith Baptist Church at Zoar. She loved supporting her family and served for many years as an advisor to the 4-H Trailblazers. Having her family nearby was important to Bonnie and through the years, had the opportunity to care for her grandchildren and watch them grow.

She will be remembered for her cooking and baking skills and the generous amounts of hard tack candy, cookies and other treats she and her family made at Christmas time. Bonnie also enjoyed camping, sewing, canning, cheering for the Cleveland Indians, following NASCAR and spoiling her dogs, Tanner and Zoe.

In addition to her beloved husband, Jim, Bonnie is survived by their children, Sandy (Donnie) Himes of Zoarville, Jim (Amy) Hendershot of New Philadelphia, and Doug Hendershot of Strasburg; her beloved grandchildren, Kaci Himes, Morgan (Caleb) Downing, Whitney Hendershot, Brynn Hendershot, Tyler Hendershot and Paiten Hendershot.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Baker and a brother, Roland “Baldy” Baker, Jr.

In keeping with Bonnie’s wishes there will be no public visitation or services. Cremation will take place through the care of the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Private inurnment in Ft. Laurens Cemetery will take place.

So Sorry for your Loss!!! Bonnie was a very Special person. To share a memory of her sense of humor. I remember us going to eat at the restaurant in Strasburg where she was a cook. She came out from kitchen to say Hi. My Mom told how much she liked the rolls. She asked Mom if she wanted the recipe she knew it by heart. Mom started looking for a pen and paper, then Bonnie said " You need a really LARGE mixing bowl, 25 lb bag of bread flour, 10 lbs of butter, and lots yeast" Mom started laughing when she realized Bonnie was being funny with her. Special condolences to the Hendershot family, her death comes way to soon and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Heaven has another Special Angel!!!

My deepest sympathy to you all. I feel so grateful that I was able to see her and talk with her even though it was at Aunt Glady's funeral. We had a great time growing up as cousins. We both loved the skate rink. Spent many Sundays there.

Jim & Sandy & rest of Bonnie's family. I'm so very sorry at the loss of your beloved wife/mother/g.mother. I have been praying seems like forever 1st was for The Lord to heal her. Then when I seen her getting weaker & frail I prayed that The Lord would take her home to heaven. I KNOW that He took her by her hand when she breathed her last breath here on earth & gave her a new eternal life. She is more ALIVE now that she ever has been. She will never suffer any form of pain, sorrows or shed another tear. She will forever live within your hearts & memories will make you smile instead of crying BUT that will take awhile. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you or make something, I'm here for y'all. God Bless & comfort you in your journey ahead of you. Love in Christ from, Tinia
